It's Christmas !

I'm really looking forward to Christmas this year.  That might be because I've got a whole ten days off work, or it might have more to do with finishing the edits on my current work in progress a few days before my self-imposed deadline of December 25th :)  Typically, having struggled through a period of  disenchantment,  now I'm full of enthusiasm again and itching to go back to it and tweak.  Isn't that the curse of being a writer?!  I will be disciplined, however, and leave it alone to settle, with just a final read through after the New Year, and then away it goes to the editors.

But I'm not going to deprive myself of romance completely over the holidays - albeit in a purely fictional sense.  I've lined up a few of Georgette Heyer's historical romances to keep me happy.  Her characters are so full of life that they leap off the page and I love her spirited blend of romance, adventure and suspense.  Add in some wine, chocolates, mince pies and candles, and you have  . . . . sheer Festive bliss!

    Thanks, Sarah, it did feel good getting those edits done ahead of time, and I feel more than justified in putting my feet up and indulging myself in some naughties but nice! Hope your Christmas is a lovely one too, xx

The annual Romantic Novelists' Conference is one of the highlights of my calendar, and this year was no exception. Held at Lancaster University, the venue was lovely even if the weather wasn't exactly sultry and summer-like.  Getting together with good friends over a bottle or three of Prosecco was the absolute high spot of a wonderful couple of days. The sessions were interesting and inspiring, among them HQ Harper Collins 'Reaching the Top in Commercial Fiction,' Vasiliki Scurfield on 'Writing the Foreign Hero' and Kate Walker on 'Emotional Punch.' Spring in Ceredigion . . .

. . . or the calm before Storm Hannah hits!  It's been a while since I've posted, due mainly to the upheaval of a house move and getting settled into my new place.  It took a while!  Interestingly, setting up my study began the process, even though most of my stuff was still in boxes - some of it still is! - and I was sleeping on my futon in my living room while waiting for my bedroom curtains to arrive. Needless to say, not much writing was getting done; in fact, I took the momentous decision last week to take the rest of the year 'off.'  I put 'off' in inverted commas because I'm still awaiting feedback on my partial submission to Harlequin Mills and Boon back in January, and I aim to submit my timeslip to the RNA's New Writers' Scheme and, of course, go to the annual conference in July. Where I'm At . . .

Well, blogging again, obviously, after several months away for various reasons. And writing again, albeit slowly, after several months away for various reasons.  Sometimes it is necessary to step away from your dream and rethink how much you really want that dream - or even if you still want it at all.  And sometimes the only way you can find out is to not follow that dream for a while and see what answer comes up. So that's what I've been doing - taking time out to rethink. And doing some reading in my chosen genre too in an attempt to enjoy  reading romance again and to remember why I started writing it in the first place.   And I've been reading some truly amazing books by truly amazing and inspiring authors.
